Thelma Drake is also a target of these ads. I wouldn't worry too much. Being painted in big oil's pocket is not a pretty picture but, as gas prices rise painting the Dem's into a corner where they can't favor drilling and exploration could help Republicans. The ads clearly state that they are not endorsed by any candidate but, the Dem. candidates will be labled with them unless they denounce them.

Much the same happend when interest group ads favoring Kellam launched attacks against Drake's support of the Fair Tax. Many independents that are pro Fair Tax but capable of considering a conservative Democrat made their minds up after that. Even though Drake has signed on to the Fair Tax, everytime she speaks of it she also mentions the Flat Tax which Fair Taxers see as far and away inferior and evidence that Drake's support of the Fair Tax might be lip service. An outright attack on Fair Tax that went undenounced by Kellam lost him crucial votes and the perception he enjoyed as a tax reformer (elimination of city decals etc.)

Glenn Nye does not enjoy the perception as of yet that he is a conservative Democrat. Furthermore, the negative that Drake blindly carries water for the Bush administration will no longer apply. Post re-election Drake has appeared to slightly more have a voice of her own. She is now seen as a balance to which ever liberal wins the White House. If Obama is seen as the most likely to win, swing voters will be even more activated to favor Republican House/Senate candidates.

Don't be too concerned about those ads. Those people don't understand Virginia; they don't live here or know the candidates. They may just be buying rope for their figurative hangings.
