I note that there are no training programs sponsored by the RPV for men, for Latino or Asian candidates. The Byler program was just a feel-good effort that was started to deflect criticism of the GOP in the wake of the sexual harassment case against former Speaker of the Virginia House, Vance Wilkins.

If Republicans are going to espouse equal treatment for all citizens, it is well past time for all-girl programs to be tossed out, along with racial/gender tokenism in all its forms. Here in the Twenty-First century, let MERIT be the only determinant for a selection and advancement, and lets have a candidate training program in the GOP that welcomes all citizens.

Crystal Clear,

I wouldn't point to Thelma Drake as being a trail blazer for women. All she has been doing is faithfully following the male dominated Republican leadership from the likes of Tom Delay.

JBI is proving to be a great way for us to connect with each other and with each others' networks, and from there outwards. So far from being some kind of exclusive girls' club, it is providing an avenue for us to meet, learn, then reach out, not only to our own local communities, but to communities statewide, where we work to elect Republicans. As Lindsay said, there are various RPV training programs - this is just one, but it's a very good one.

And breaking the "Glass Ceiling" we are! Look at other Republican women in Congress: our own Rep. Thelma Drake, Rep. Jean Schmidt (keep being a thorn in Murtha's side), Rep. Marsha Blackburn, etc. They are the trailblazers for women in politics.

I am thankful that the RPV wants to help women enter into politics and continue shattering the metaphorical "glass ceilings."

Mr. Ballance,

I am also a graduate of JBI. RPV offers many training programs for both men and women, but JBI was founded to honor Jennifer Byler, a Virginia Republican activist, and to provide training specifically tailored to women seeking to run for office. It was not intended to exclude men from training opportunities, but was created to give women advice on how to break into a sector dominated by men.

RPV spends very few dollars on this program and it is run almost completely by volunteers.

Why does the Republican Party, a party which champions the equal treatment of all citizens, still sponsor a gender-specific training program; a girls-only school for political aspirants?

It would be more in keeping with the Creed of the Republican Party to host a training program that is open to all citizens.

The Democrats are the party of those moronic political correctness rules and race/gender quota programs. The Democrats are the ones who made federal employees go through forced re-education "camps" to make everyone learn new rules for "appropriate" speech, and it is the Democrats who led the effort to eliminate free speech on our college campuses, by deeming all that is not Leftist propaganda as, "inappropriate."

Let's have the Republican Party be the champion for a MERIT based society, where citizens are all welcome to participate, without regard to their gender or gene pool of origin. Let's not become "Democrat-lite." Instead, let's create programs that unite citizens of all backgrounds for the common purpose of reigning in government and restoring our Constitution-based republic.

Jane,

I hope you are enjoying JBI. As a JBI alumna, the program has definitely been beneficial in preparing me for the future.
