The Audacity of … Audacity

The Great Seal of Obama

In an unprecendented display of arrogance, the great saviour of mankind, the great leader of men, the great thinker of thinkers, the one and true Messiah, Barack Obama, has unveiled a new logo that he uses on his lecterns.

Funny. It looks just like the Presidential Seal. But it’s not. This is kind of like measuring the windows for draperies in the White House.

Ugh. This needs to be quickly resigned to the rubbish bin of baaad ideas. That would be change i could believe in.

Honestly, for a campaign in which image is a strong concern, i can’t imagine something like this would escape focus grouping. And no way that general reaction to this was positive…

I find it hard to believe that the same crew that developed the now ubiquitous “O” logo came up with this drek. Did the campaign hire a new branding consultant?

    Jeremy,
    Thanks for being intellectually honest.

I, however, not surprisingly, disagree. I truly hope that Obama keeps this seal and proudly displays this between now and Election Day, where, from that point on, it will be relegated to the dust-bin of history, along with his Marxist and “cult of personality”-like campaign.

I seem to hear “Marxist” thrown around a lot these days in regards to Obama by folks on the right. I’m going to have to brush up on my Marx apparently, as I’m not seeing a lot of Marxism in his platform. Just curious, what form of Marxism do you see in his campaign? Or is just the general “power of the moneyed special interests subverting the will of the people” talk that makes you think that?

Is this for real? I don’t understand why anyone would design such a logo. To me this should be much more detrimental than any Kerryism.

What’s next, is Obama going to unveil this great new way to buy things? All you need to do is get this number on your forehead or hand…

    ICK!

Yes, unfortunately, this is for real.

The Dali Bama has all but annointed himself president.

Jeremy, I mentioned the reasons in our podcast on Thursday. You’ll have to give it a listen.

I’ll tell you how Obama is Marxist. Maybe it’s not in his platform, but it sure is in his speeches and rhetoric.

He routinely castigates capitalists (i.e. CEOs) and complains that they are exploting the working class. The owning class versus the working class. Does that sound Marxist to anyone?

He routinely gives rousing speeches meant to rile up working-class people to oppose those who supposedly oppress them. Does those sound Marxist to anyone?

There are few more simplistic things in life than to diffuse Marxism. To these long-oppressed workers, I would ask, if you are able to topple the evil capitalists who oppress you … who would give you a job?

By that yardstick Reagan was a Marxist…

Hey, question, didn’t Bush have a similar presidential-campaign seal in 1999? Regardless, I’ll joing the chorus here in agreeing that it is an idea best sent to the trash heap.

Logo - who cares? He is winning now and will probably prevail in November.

    Ragnar -

How little you understand Reagan. “Government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem,” he said.

Those words would never pass Obama’s lips.

Reagan would never attack the creators of jobs and economic growth.

I like the O in place of the shield on the eagle that represents the president’s oath to defend the Constitution. Apparently Obama is bigger than the Constitution.

Chase - how little you acutally know of Reagan’s actions, he grew government faster than any President since FDR - only Bush II has come close to the increase in the size of government to Reagan.

It really is fascinating to see the false cult of personality that has grown up around the rememberance of who Reagan was - a cult which doesn’t bother with facts or truth. Talk about Marxism…

  15. ChaseNo Gravatar on June 24th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

I think maybe you have in mind the wrong definition of Marxism.

Perhaps government spending grew under Reagan, which is almost entirely attributable to defense spending or deals made with Congress to achieve defense spending, but that is not in any way relevant to whether or not you are (or he was) a Marxist.

Perhaps your education is insufficient, or perhaps you are willfully ignorant, but Marxism and Reaganism are about a thousand miles apart.

Reagan — and I — believe in individual achievement, capitalism, low taxes, personal property rights, et cetera.

    Reagan. Marxist? Are you high?

  16. Brian KirwinNo Gravatar on June 24th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Chase, you have to understand. Ragnar calls Reagan a marxist but calls himself a conservative democrat.

    Yeah…he’s high.
