Thelma Drake: GI Bill without a tax increase
|
|
Congresswoman Thelma Drake again showed how important conservative representation is in Washington. The easy path? Approve any GI bill that comes along. The right path? Oppose Democrat tax increases. Drake and the Republicans approved a new GI bill after the Democrat tax increase was stripped out.
Drake -”I am happy that our troops will get the updated GI Bill that I have always supported. Unlike the last version that the House considered, this bill will allow our veterans to transfer their benefits to family members and won’t raise taxes on American families.”

From the the bill just approved (H.R.2642), unless i’m mistaken:
So, taxing upper level income earners for a program that will predominantly benefit the middle and lower level earners is good thing now, Brian? Welcome to the team, buddy :). Your Obama 08 bumper sticker is in the mail.
Only if the team is called “wrong on the internet”
That’s an old version of the bill. I grant you that federal legislation is not the easiest thing to follow, but here is the text of the bill that passed last night.

No tax increase!
Yup, Borrow and Spend Thelma is at it again. Increase spending and oppose ways to pay for the spending increases.
Even John McCain opposed the new GI Bill because of the expense. Seems to me John McCain was willing to courageously provide fiscally responsible leadership while Thelma is just once again in favor of adding to the deficit.
I am not opposed to increased GI Bill benefits as long as some way is found to pay for it. Thelma Drake is once again in favor of another spending increase without cutting spending elsewhere or providing additional revenue to fund it. Just another example of what is wrong with Thelma Drake representing Virginia’s Second.
Thelma Drake needs to go.
I guess LittleDavid wants to get rid of every Democrat who voted for the same thing, eh?
Didn’t think so…..only partisan attacks again.
Brian,
Partisan attacks?
Go read my post again. I praised McCain for opposing it. Last time I looked McCain was a Republican.
Double post.
Brian Kirwin has exposed himself as supporting every Republican candidate no matter what their viewpoint is.
Perhaps there is no problem with that as long as your realize that Brian Kirwin is just another Republican hack. There is room in our society for the likes of him as long as you understand where he is coming from.
Grin. Gotcha Brian.
So much for “free speech” eh? You get to decide whom society has “room” for?
Nice…..typical of your ideology, but nice.
Diversity, my eye!
Brian,
Where did I say you should be silenced? However I think your criticisms of me as being partisan while your own viewpoint is so clearly partisan are unwarranted.
I will at least occassionally vote for a Republican, however I can’t see you ever voting for a Dem.
Thelma Drake is exactly what we’ll need in the 2nd. I predict that she will beat Nye by a wider margin than she did Kellam.
I would say the odds favor an Obama victory, therefore it will be crucial to keep Drake in office.
I will also make an upset prediction. Jim Gilmore will come from behind and overtake the gargantuan insurmountable lead that Mark Warner enjoys. Who else had an insurmountable lead? Mary Sue Terry. Who overcame the insurmountable lead she enjoyed in the summer? That would be Jim Gilmore.
Actually, that would be George Allen. Jim Gilmore beat Don Beyer.
Ah, I stand corrected. I should have checked.
Well, the point is the same. We shouldn’t get too discouraged by what pollsters and pundits tell us right this moment.
When anyone mentions the supposed lead Warner has we should bring up Mary Sue Terry’s lead to bring things into proper perspective. Support, financial and otherwise is often based on perceived chances at winning.
And my lack of formal knowledge of legislative processes shows through. I usually depend on THOMAS for reviewing legislation, and i swear that the version i found was the most recent, having been dated from the 15th. Oh well, pardon me while i wipe the egg of my face.
No sweat. Thomas isn’t the easiest site for tracking a bill. The amendment I linked to was approved June 19th, and hadn’t made Thomas yet.
All honor and support to veterans. But things of value must be paid for. Our vets are worth every tax dollar required to render them the honor they deserve. But there’s no way that conservatives can support the government giving away things of value without paying for them.
Thelma has way better positions on Transportation, Energy and defense - I just wish she’d pay more attention to bills like H.R. 3835, and cut back on some of this police state foolishness.
Warner’s a putz, Gilmore’s going to clobber him - especially with all the anti tax sentiment Kaine has stirred up. We have to keep that going. My bullhorn has been working double time in traffic for Gilmore.
