Al Gore - Irrelevant

Al Gore may be the most irrelevant Oscar Award winner to be inserted into a presidential race since Susan Sarandon (who, as you may know, has vowed to leave the United States if John McCain is elected. See here.)

“Louise” (or “Baseball Annie”) joins such notables as Alec Baldwin with promises to leave America if their favored liberal candidate does not win the election. Would that they ever kept their promises. But they won’t, since they know that being in America has made them rich and famous and given them the very opportunity to say the inane things they have said.

Which brings us to Al Gore.

For months during the Democrat primary, Gore’s name surfaced as a potential Vice Presidential running mate for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Gore studiously stayed out of the race — in great contrast to other prominent Democrats who endorsed one or the other before the race was decided.

Great courage, that, former Senator Al.

So, since Nobel Laureate Gore has decided to endorse Obama, what does it really mean? I contend: not much.

First, Gore waited until the race was already decided to announce his support for Obama. Which clearly means that he was waiting in the shadows to come out. That gives his endorsement no weight at all with Obama’s internal folks, especially as compared to those who came out early (e.g. Gov. Richardson).

Second, what exactly does he bring Obama?

* Not the south, witness his failure to win his own state of Tennessee in 2000.
* Not liberals, as Obama should have them pretty well locked up by now.
* Not former Bill Clinton supporters, or Hillary supporters, as his ‘neutral’ position during this primary indicated that he was uncomfortable with Hillary.
* Not envrionmenalists, which Obama already has.

In fact, if it’s true (as some have said) that people are tired of the Clinton and Bush years, is not Al Gore a reminder of the Clinton years? Perhaps the NutRoots still love him, but I’ll betcha that no regular American has any desire to go back.

And besides, he’s just not likeable.

In short, what voter does Al Gore move that was not already there?

I have to agree. His endorsement doesn’t mean much more than a photo op now.

Exactly. Al Gore was just looking to get back in the limelight. Al misses all the attention. So he grabbed Obama’s coat tails to get his name back in the news.

I liked the way Al blamed Bush for everything including that nasty sliver I got two months ago. This really upped his man-of-science credentials in my mind.

Agreed. Geez, he even blamed Bush for tainted tomatoes, referring to a BLT without the “T.”

Really, now, though, do you think Al Gore should be eating bacon?

Amazing isn’t it? i mean he says nothing when Hillary was running and then when it is safe, he rants about being so anti-war like Obama and trashes those who voted for it… Hmmm, that would be… Hillary.

Nice showing of courage waiting until a week after Obama sews it up to endorse. What a leader [eyes rolling]

I wanter how much carbon footprint Al Gore has.. I mean with a foot print weight of like 270 lbs it can’t be good!

There is a buffet somewhere happy he took a break to give a speech

If there were ever a politician NOBODY wants to see in office again, that politician would be Al Gore. When your home state won’t vote for you, it is time to go away. Tennessee took the hit knowing Al would move home if not elected. They would rather suffer with him at home than have him “help” the country on a national stage. Thank you, Tennessee voters.

Al Gore just picked the Boston Celtics to win the NBA Title!

Good lord, now thats what i call an echo chamber.

BTW, i doubt Gore has any desire to return to politics. Why should he, when he’s got a pretty sweet setup now?
