More Cantor for VP Talk
More Rep. Eric Cantor for Vice-President talk, this time from the New York Post. It makes a lot of sense. Cantor is all over energy independence – he has this recent post on his blog, “The Drill Nothing Congress.” He’s just saying what many, many Americans are thinking, “Why on earth don’t we _do_ something to secure our own domestic supply of oil?”
Update: more from the Weekly Standard on why Cantor would be a good VP pick.

Did you just confuse drilling ANWAR with energy independence? Really?
Ah, yes, the left’s wonderful theory that if we don’t produce our own, we’ll be less dependent on foreign sources.
Worked wonderfully in the 70s.
The energy situation is one where Reagan’s word ring true – Government is the problem.
Just curious, with McCain’s age potentially making his VP choice even more important that usual (one heartbeat away and all that stuff), doesn’t choosing younger-than-Obama Rep Cantor kinda throw a little sand into his “Obama is too young and inexperienced” argument? Cantor has what, 4-5 years of legislative experience over Obama, but only in the House?
I have a problem with any person that says the solution to all our problems is we just need to drill for more oil. Yes, short term we need more oil, long term we need more alternative energy sources.
You can deny global warming if you want, but truth is the Arctic ice cap is melting. While green house gasses might not be the cause, it is the only cause that we might be able to do something about. If we have tried everything possible, but still are unsuccessful, then we can still pray to God to save us. But until we have tried everything in our power, it is wrong to demand that God does it for us. God helps those that help themselves.
I see no long term solution to the energy problem without seeking alternative energy solutions. Problem is that the environmentalist extremists also come up with objections to every solution (even wind turbines) and seem to seek that we regress back to horse and buggy days.
