Obama’s Poor Judgment

obamarezkoIn his quest for the Democratic nomination for President, Barack Obama made the issue of judgment a centerpiece of his campaign.  He used his early opposition of the Iraq War as a skewer upon which to hoist his rivals and counter their clear advantage in experience and tenure in public office.

Unfortunately for Obama, as we move towards the general election and discover more and more about the Young Senator from Illinois, there is much evidence emerging that should bring his judgment into question.

Today’s conviction of Obama’s longtime friend Tony Rezko on 16 counts related to corruption of public officials is just the latest example of a string of questionable relationships.

While Obama was not implicated in this trial, it is undisputed that Obama and Rezko have been close friends for aproximately 20 years.  In fact, Rezko has been one of Obamas biggest fundraisers having pulled in some $250,000 for Obama’s various campaigns. Further, the details of a joint land deal involving Obama and Rezko, which was revealed by the Chicago Tribune, has highlighted their close relationship.

While Obama has claimed that he knew nothing of Rezko’s illegal activities, a simple Google search will reveal many articles prior to 2006 regarding Rezko’s activities.  Obama’s 20 year friendship with Tony Rezko, his association with Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and his longtime following of his “spiritual mentor” Rev. Jeremiah Wright are just a few examples of exceedingly poor judgment by Barack Obama in choosing his friends and associates in the course of his quick rise to the top of the Democratic Party.

Of course, those are just the ones we know about so far.  As we are quickly discovering, there is still a great deal that America has to learn about Barack Obama.  So as he travels around our Commonwealth this week, I wonder if anyone will have the guts to ask him what these kinds of close friends and associates say about the judgment of a potential President.  After all, Obama should be reminded that it was he who made that judgment an issue in the first place.

Yes, Obama has shown some poor judgement in his association with Rezko, for sure. To use his own words, it was pretty “boneheaded”. At least though his “poor judgement” didn’t contribute to costing the us taxpayer $125 billion and the collapse of an entire financial sector. Nor, AFAIK, is his top financial advisor credited by some economists as being one of the primary architects in creating the current sub-prime credit crisis.

Personally, i don’t think lining up past and current associations as evidence of judgement would really fare either candidate that well at this point.

BHO has also received money from Jack Abramoff’s law firm, Green Taurig. GT may be linked to a Congressional staffer who was just convicted for lining up earmarks for clients of an unnamed lobbying firm.

McCain can’t tell the difference between a Shi’a and a Sunni, doesn’t know which side sect supports or is hated by Al Qaeda, and was endorsing the war when Obama was speaking out against it. Oh, and lets not forget all the lobbiests running the McCain “straight talk express”…

Who has shown poorer judgement again?
