First of all, questionable clip. But, regardless, he’s an accomplished self made man - and besides, you who voted for and continue to support Bush - Bush! live in a glass house, so watch where you throw those stones.

Yeah, you’re not a partisan, Rags.

If a Republican talked about the 57 states he visited, you’d be throwing him off a cliff.

Obama is an idiot who speaks well. He will not unite, only divide!

In Soviet Amerika, Obama or McCain get elected by YOU!!

Slip of the tongue. Do YOU REALLY believe this guy doesnt know how many states there are?? Plus he was probably referring to number of contests.

  6. Brian KirwinNo Gravatar on June 5th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Sorry, Ian, but “57 states” is Obama’s “potatoe”

If a Republican said it, you’d be blasting him.

It was amusing to see that during his speech at Nissan Pavillion today Obama stopped for a second before he said “48″ was the number of states he had visited during the primary campaign.

Oh, and he also promised everything to everybody without bothering to say where the money is coming from.

The man is the king of pander.

Thanks for telling me how I would do something, Brian. When have you ever seen me post a dumb “misspeak” by any republican? Bush included….NEVER.

  9. Stephen GunterNo Gravatar on June 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Maybe he’s talking about the 50 states, and the six territories along with Iraq? That would be 57 states in our empire…

Even Ian thinks what Obama said is “dumb”

Sorry i’m late to the party but… why not?

    We elected this one:

    The genius of George Bush

Twice even (4 times for Texans).

Its a good thing that video cameras weren’t around in the founding fathers days. Franklin could apparently really cut one loose, and can you imagine what must have come from the mouth of Jefferson after a couple bottles of his favorite Hermitage or Termo (words only please, no visuals).

Obama’s no different from Bush - so says Jeremy!

  13. Stephen GunterNo Gravatar on June 6th, 2008 at 9:27 am

You’re right… They are different… in which areas of the government they want to expand!

Oh no, you got me Brian! Thats right, i agree with ol’ Larry Johnson:

The White House is currently occupied by an inexperienced man–a nice man–of limited accomplishment who used cocaine as a young adult. And the best answer the Democrats now offer is an inexperienced man who used cocaine as a young adult? That is change?

Darn you and your irrefutable logic! I can only take solace in the fact that you recognize my significance, and by demonstrating so skillfully that i think Obama and Bush are the same, you have scored a major blow for Republicans everywhere. You’ll excuse me now, as i must go purchase a Hummer to drive over my Prius.

Just so long as we elect a man who doesn’t believe that singing “bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” is appropriate or rational or even sane - perhaps someone with some understanding of world affairs (not to mention economics, or possibly even the law), and who actually has some idea what Al Qaeda is and that it is NOT supported by Shi’a Persian Iran…

How about if we just elect someone who went to college on his own merits, who is a self-made man, an American success story. Say what you will, but McCain went to the Academy b/c his father and grandfather were admirals, and he graduated at the bottom of the class.

Because, Rag, our problem is government involvement. Obama is touting more of it. You can’t fix a problem with a problem. That’s like saying, “My house is flooding! Quick! Grab the fire hose!”

    Rag,

Your 11:51 AM attack on McCain bears about as much relationship to reality as does the charge that Obama doesn’t actually know there are only 50 states.

FYI: the sunni/shia schism may seem like a convenient way to discount Iran’s mastery of terrorists throughout the Muslim world, but merely because certain groups are sunni does not mean even for a second that shiite Iran would not support them as tools of their long-term policies. You state the opposite so matter-of-factly that one is led to believe only an idiot would believe otherwise, but there are several well-documented cases that prove you are wrong. First, Hamas (a sunni terrorist group now controlling the Gaza Strip) has become virtually a house organ of the mullahs in Iran, much like the Lebanese shiite Hezbollah before it. Second, Iran backed non-shiite militias/warlords throughout the post-Soviet period in Afghanistan so as to protect its interests there. Third, Iran backed underground sunni revolutionaries in Saddam’s Iraq. The common theme here is that one’s branch of Islam is not necessarily a bar to Iranian backing; the mullahs make calculated decisions to back those individuals and groups who they perceive to be best-positioned to advance Iranian designs, be they sunni or shiite. Why, then, is the idea that Iran would aid Al Qaeda so ridiculous?

    Steve -

You obviously do not understand the region as well as you think you do, although no doubt better than Sen. McCain.

I don’t have the time to go though and explain on each point where you are wrong, but I will leave you with this: Iran would never aid Al Qaeda b/c Al Qaeda is a radical Sunni organization which believes (as many Sunni’s do) that Shi’ites are not Muslims, that they are abhorrant to Islam and Allah, that they are worshipers of death (that is a story in and of itself) and are legitimate targets to be killed in Jihad, which is why Al Qaeda has repeatedly murdered large numbers of Shi’a Muslims, including those who are supported by Iran.

You may prefer a world that is simple in contrasts of black and white, but that world ended when the Soviets fell, we need a President who has the intellegence and the experience to understand this region and its conflicts. John McCain is most definitely not that man.

  19. Stephen GunterNo Gravatar on June 8th, 2008 at 12:10 am

Well, I totally agree with you on your point about Iran, and I’ve not said anything different from what you have about Iran. I certainly do not buy into the government’s version of Iran.

However, I disagree with a centralized government. This is why I can not support Obama. Obama once complained that McCain said that the best thing we can do for the economy is leave it alone. It was evident to me that Obama doesn’t understand free market. How can I support someone like that, when I HATE giving the government as much as I do in taxes right now?

But please understand that I am no McCain supporter either. I can never vote for someone that would be against my core beliefs, even if it means that I’m going to vote for someone that won’t win. I have enough problems in life to add to them the guilt that I just voted for someone just because they say they’re republican. In my opinion, there are a lot of people claiming that they are republican but are not.
