A senior member of Del. Jeff Frederick’s transition team informed BD this morning that a “smooth and cooperative” transition is taking place at RPV that is “in the best interests of the party.”
Despite reports that RPV staff members are leaving in droves, effectively being pushed out the door, the Frederick team insists that the transition has been benign.
Currently, Gerry Scimeca and Tom Bunnell are at RPV looking at the administration of the party and past records, gathering information to brief Frederick on the party’s current financial, legal, and political status. Yesterday, Gary Byler also volunteered his legal expertise.
The staff at RPV remains, for the most part, in place; assisting the transition team wherever possible. Yesterday, Fred Malek and Charlie Judd, both key leaders at RPV offered their resignations.
Today, Malek posted on his blog a “Plea for Unity“:
“I also had a very nice conversation with Jeff Frederick yesterday, was impressed with his approach, and will be supportive of his efforts. It is essential for our party to remain united to be successful in our pivotal races this year and next. Jeff has great energy and determination, and I believe he will be successful. It is up to all of us to help make it so.”
Next week, Frederick is said to begin an aggressive travel schedule around the commonwealth with other key party leaders to begin promoting GOP candidates. Yesterday, he released his 100-day plan on his Web site and his transition team.

Already when you call the RPVA Obenshain Center, there is a positive change. The voices on the phone are pleasant, friendly, upbeat and eager to be helpful.
People are getting giddy about moving into a brighter future for the Virginia GOP and for good government.
With Jeff Frederick as our Chairman, this will not be a “one man show” but folks from all across the Commonwealth are uniting on the same team to steer this Party back to winning, with a message of less government and more freedom for our citizens.
The upcoming Senate election may not go well, but the Virginia Republicans have much to be optimistic about, especially under Jeff Frederick’s leadership.
John Hager deserves our gratitude for all of the work he has done for the Party. I am sure that he will continue to be a huge asset to the team as the Party moves forward to meet the challenges of this new Century.
Well said, Tyler!!
I to believe this is a new day for Virginia Republicans, and a new day with a return to old fashioned Reagan principles that will once again, as always, excite the base and lead us, over time, back to the majority.
‘Principle over Party’ is the very best way to ensure that there will be a decent party of principle!!
