McCain as Goldwater
By Chris | Friday, May 30th, 2008 | Catch-AllSo sayeth Quin Hillyer of the American Spectator today. Here’s the money quote:
John McCain is not a conservative champion. But he deeply believes, and strongly champions, many conservative principles, many Goldwaterite principles. We certainly could do worse than to be stuck with him as our own, infuriating, headstrong, bullying, honor-obsessed, indefatigable, and sometimes downright inspirational SOB.

The 1964 Goldwater was a clear minded, libertarian-Republican.
The 1990′s Goldwater was what many today like to call, a RINO Republican, due to nothing more than the fact that later in life, Barry Goldwater became more compassionate and less rigid.
John McCain has transformed in a similar way. He is becoming more considerate of other viewpoints and he appears to recognize that no one person or Party has a lock on wisdom.
I think that John McCain will turn out to be very attractive to crossover voters from the D side and wildly popular among the Independents. It even looks like McCain is polling well amongst us bitter White folks who are still clinging to our faith and our guns!
I’ll take the ’64 Goldwater, please. Great, let him be attractive to crossover voters who don’t understand the proper function of government either. If I wanted the party to keep sliding left, I’d pick him too. Now, if he picks Ron Paul as his Veep, I’d vote for him.
It’d be a shame if he decided to ‘Barr’ the conservative base from voting for him.
