Some have implied that Bob Marshall (no favorite with tax and spend corporate lobbyists) will have trouble raising the funds needed to beat Mark Warner even if he should win the Republican nomination.

Marshall certainly hasn’t raised much so far — but he hasn’t spent much either. Gilmore has raised over a million in the last 6 months but he has spent over 800,000 of it and just loaned himself 50K to get through the convention.

“All the evidence on fundraising suggests that Gilmore has lost his touch,” said Larry Sabato, a political scientist at the University of Virginia, who noted that Gilmore was known as a proficient fundraiser when he was attorney general and governor during the mid-1990s. “Where is the money? It’s not there, and it’s not going to be there.” See WP story
