Gov. Kaine to transportation opponents: “Stay off the roads”
By | Friday, May 23rd, 2008 | Catch-All

About half-way through Mary Pulley’s report on WHSV.com, Gov. Kaine is confronted by some peaceful demonstrators conveying their opposition to new taxes to fund transportation. The demonstrators were chanting “No New Taxes” outside the location where Kaine was to hold a transportation meeting when the governor approached one of them, touched the protester, and said “Stay off the roads.”

See the report here.

    “Some peaceful demonstrators” = Ben Marchi, Virginia director of Americans for Prosperity. The best he can pull out is one friend? Highly lame.

    Who is really behind this “Americans for Prosperity” group? I looked at their website and it has a lot of political operatives left over from the past, none of whom have a particular agenda of their own; they are just, “rented strangers.” So, who is fronting the money for these guys and why?

    Their actions indicate that they are on the side of the multinational oligopolies, but the question remains: Whose pocket are they in?

    All they want is for these Democrat governors to keep their campaign promises, and look at the attacks they receive.

    Stay off the roads? What roads? The Governor plans to raise taxes for a bunch of hoghways that will not be finished for 20 years and tax the sale of homes to pay for:

    * Light Rail
    * Freight Rail
    * The Ports
    * Airports
    * Bike Paths
    * Buses
    * Horse Trails
    * Jogging paths
    * Money to give to private companies to get them to take over public highways, add lanes, and toll us to death.

    The protestors should have replied, “We will when you stay off the drugs and your addiction to campign contributions from the highway lobby and light rail developers, Governor!”
