Brownlee running
AP is reporting that John Brownlee will be making his AG-candidacy announcement today. What clued them in?
John Brownlee said he would make an announcement Tuesday in Roanoke about his political future. But an e-mail statement was written on “John Brownlee for Attorney General” letterhead, leaving little doubt he would disclose his candidacy.
This sets up the expected race between Brownlee and Cuccinelli for the AG nom. Don’t forget to participate in the poll on the sidebar for who you’re supporting as of today!

I met Brownlee at the 11th CD on Saturday and my initial impression was that he is sharp, a gentleman, a genuine nice guy, and someone worth listening to.
The fact that he also became Airborn and Ranger qualified while he was in the Army also indicates he is tough and a fighter.
Oops.
It is of course “Airborne”.
Both Ken and John are darlings of the Religious Reich and are sullied by their close ties to the Bush Neocons. I fail to see any substantive difference.
These are both guys who would like to see Virginia become the nation’s leading importer of prisoners and leading jail destination. They want our slogan to be, “Virginia is for Inmates.”
We need a better approach than this, “lock ‘em up and throw away the key” philosophy advocated by the religious zealot-wing of the Republican Party.
At the local level, Republicans like Henrico Sheriff Mike Wade take a compassionate position and advocates humane treatment and rehabilitation of convicted citizens. However, once we get to the statewide level, it seems all we see are wild-eyed zealots who advocate tossing as many people in jail as possible, no matter how frivolous (and sometimes baseless) the charge.
Bob McDonnell squeaked into office by scaring the Sally Soccermoms with his warnings about pedophiles, even though this is a statistically rare crime. Never mind reality, just go for those emotional buttons and push them over and over with heavily funded TV ads.
I am wondering if that same trick will fool Virginians again.
I don’t know who the socialist-democrats are going to run, but I really wish there was a more modern thinking Republican choice in this AG race; someone who actually recalls we have this thing called, the Constitution.
John Brownlee was under consideration for a federal judgeship in 2007. Two Bar associations gave him a “tepid” endorsement (this according to the Roanoke Times. Three others found him unqualified.
His name was not sent to the White House for consideration.
Now Mr. Brownlee thinks Virginians desire his services as State Attorney General.
In my opinion, if Mr. Brownlee was not qualified to sit on the Federal Bench, how is he qualified to be State Attorney General?
