Why Hillary expects to beat Obama

With Barack Obama having a virtual lock leading the delegate race, Hillary Clinton must rely on Party Leaders, the so-called Superdelegates, to shove Obama out of the way and clear a path for her.
Why would Hillary count on such a thing to happen? She expects it, and why shouldn’t she?
Let’s go back to 2000, the year Hillary won her first Senate election. She was everyone’s choice for the Senate – wait, no she wasn’t! New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey was, and somehow she was talked into sitting around and waiting while Hillary conducted her “listening tour.” When Hillary finally announced she was running, Lowey was shown the door.
Then on to a showdown with New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani – wait, Rudy stepped aside and cleared the way for Hillary to trounce an inexperienced Rick Lazio who hasn’t had his name on a ballot since.
In 2006, Hillary was up for re-election, and boy was it going to be a barnburner! Lining up for the Republicans was a District Attorney Jeanine Pirro – wait, she dropped out and Hillary defeated a former mayor of Yonkers with 67% of the vote.
See any patterns?
So, if you’re wondering why Hillary won’t just give up and expects Obama to just move out of her way, you shouldn’t wonder. People have been doing that for her every single election.
Why should she expect anything different now?

I read this exact theory in US News a few months ago - and I concur with you, I think it’s right on.
She is simply used to everthing falling into place for her, that she just doesn’t know what to do now. Heck, this could be the first real disappointment of her life (there’s no way she was surprised by Ms. Lewinsky’s love of cigars…).
Damn. USN&WR beat me to it? Here I was thinking I was brilliant.
Senato Clinton seems to have the good fortune to have mysterious things accidentally happen to those who get in the way. With my false apology to Al Gore, it appears to me that Ms. Clinton has an uncanny ability to dodge the ocassional “inconvenient truth” when those who know those truths run into difficulty and can’t come forward to provide the information. When youo count on things somehow going your way time after time, you apparently come to think you are invincible. Her last hope is to have the superdelegates “find out” they must vote for her after her friends explain to them why it would be in their best interest to support her.
