Hey Obama, where’s Oprah?
By | Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 | Catch-All

A few months back, Oprah and Obama were inseparable, remember? But lately, she’s been away from the campaign trail and closed-mouthed about the candidate she launched. Wonder what happened? Could it be…….

The Chicago Tribune and Newsmax seem to think so.

“According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright’s more incendiary sermons, which she knew had the power to damage her standing as America’s favorite daytime talk-show host.”

And it must be sheer coincidence that once America got a taste of Wright’s sermons, Oprah found better things to do than campaign with the candidate who called him a “spiritual adviser.”

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

She’s just doing and saying what a talk show host would do.

Oprah is a smart woman. She gave Obama a boost. Heck, she may be the reason why he is currently ahead of Clinton. Her job is done, and she is going to let him coast to the Democratic nod.

I think you are right; she does not want to touch Obama with a 10-foot pole right now because then people might start asking why she left Wright’s church while Obama stayed. That would not be a good place for her or Obama to be.

It’s best for her popularity (and finances) and for Obama that people not make the Oprah-Obama-Wright connection.

Don’t worry if Obama runs into problems with McCain, she’ll be back. In fact, she is probably Obama’s October surprise.
