Gingrich calls for Republicans to be, well, Republicans
In this week’s newsletter from Newt Gingrich, he makes a compelling case for Congressional Republicans to make bold changes before Memorial Day and start taking action on those changes ASAP. Given the facts on the current state of the GOP, how is it possible for him to be ignored?
Read his “nine-step” plan for success.

These are fantastic ideas, but I’d add one more. Every state should match the federal gas tax holiday but doing the same thing with state gas taxes.
Newt Gingrich is correct to sound the clarion call for change within the Republican Party. However his nine points of proposed change is sorely lacking.
Conduct the census with hand held computers? My gosh, with the money saved we can balance the budget – sarcasm intended. How did that one (and other minor points) even make the list of the changes necessary?
It is correct to call for change. The changes proposed are grossly insufficient.
I want to thank J.R. for following Newt into introducing this topic into public discussion.
“The Republican brand has been so badly damaged that if Republicans try to run an anti-Obama, anti- Reverend Wright, or (if Senator Clinton wins), anti-Clinton campaign, they are simply going to fail.”
Well, well! Newt’s criticizing republicans just like some of us within the party who are quite aware of what has happened to the party brand. Republicans alone are 100% responsible, starting with that Big Government occupant of the White House.
It’s beyond time for republicans to get back to core principles and act like republicans.
Terri — you found the exact paragraph that caught my attention too.
While LD has a problem with some of the nine steps, that’s fine. At least it’s a plan.
Right now, the GOP looks like a boat without any oars. Lots of good people, but different agendas and ideas. They have to start pulling the oars together — or they’ll sink together.
J.R.
The problem is not that the Republicans do not have any oars in the water. The problem is that many of the Republicans pulling at the oars have oars that are rotted by termites. Grin.
