The WWE meets the WSJ
For those high-cultured political observers out there, you may be sitting there scratching your head wondering why the three major candidates for President would stoop to cutting promos on the WWE’s Monday Night RAW program last evening. The idea of mixing politics and “sports entertainment” may seem so very gauche and offensive to your […]
Glad to Be On Board
It’s an honor to be invited to blog here at Bearing Drift, a site which has been a must-read for me for some time. I’m an observer more than an analyst, so I will be posting more photographs than analysis. So to kick things off, here is the President, from 2005, shaking hands in the […]
Net Neutrality discussed in the Senate
Is Net Neutrality becoming a partisan issue? Well, if so, then this Republican is siding with the Democrats. The internet must remain a free place for the free exchange of ideas.

Pennsylvania: Decision 2008
It all comes down to today. The hits have been hard. The struggle has taken weeks. And both sides have been claiming victory. But after the seconds finally wind down, we will have knowledge of a new contest that will affect Pennsylvania from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and be felt all the […]
Mark Warner: Boldly Eschewing Principles Since 2000
Mark Warner obviously thinks very little of the voters of Virginia.
I can think of no other explanation for the absurd mantra that Warner is now trumpeting in his campaign for the United States Senate: that of the “Radical Centrist.”

Is there something about social studies?
I know sex scandals and politics go together like franks and beans, but I never wondered where the connection begins.
Another sex scandal in local schools and it’s another social studies teacher: A Virginia Beach social studies teacher charged with child pornography on the heels of a social studies teacher who ran up to 8 […]
Why is the Roanoke Times pimping David Bowers?
Money, it is said, is the mothers milk of politics. It is hard to look anywhere this year without hearing about the electoral money race in general, and the absurd fundraising numbers generated by Barack Obama in particular.
That backdrop is what makes the Roanoke Times’ recent article about fundraising in the Roanoke City Council elections so strange. […]
Gilmore campaign declares victory?
Citing a solid turnout at the RPV convention May 30-31 as a precursor to victory, Matt Wells, campaign manager for Jim Gilmore, sounded awfully confident in a release today about his candidate’s chances next month:

Three “New Contributors” to BD
I’m pleased to welcome to the Bearing Drift team Jane Dudley from Conservativa, Chris Obenshain (Old Zach) from SST, and Shaun Kenney from his namesake blog.
They join Brian Kirwin, Norm Leahy, Georgie Gale, The Squeaky Wheel, and myself at offering news, analysis, insight, and perspective on the goings-on all across the Virginia political spectrum from […]

More FEC candidate information…Ellmore lags Singh
Earlier this week I posted that Republican Mark Ellmore’s campaign finance information was not yet available to compare with his Virginia Eighth Congressional District primary opponent, Amit Singh. That has since changed. In recent FEC data, compared to Singh’s $35K raised and $30K on-hand, Ellmore raised about $14K and has $15K on-hand.

Hillary disses Bill in debate
I was laughing hysterically, and was hoping some talented director at ABC would show a reaction shot of Chelsea when Hillary took her shot at her husband, Bill. It was fantastic, because Hillary is usually so scripted, and this sounded like it just came to her from nowhere.

Brownlee to cause another ROVA v. NOVA debate?
It seems that the announcement of John Brownlee resigning from his US Attorney’s position and, potentially, getting ready to run for AG has caused some folks to believe that this will be another example of NoVA (Sen. Cuccinelli) v. RoVA (Brownlee).

Without Brian Moran, Tim Kaine has no legacy
“He can’t run on the Kaine legacy if he doesn’t help make it happen first,” said [Moran] campaign spokesman Jesse Ferguson during a weekend fundraiser at T.C. Williams High School.
WHOOPS!
This was in response to why Sen. Deeds has announced but Del. Moran hasn’t, despite having much of the machinery in place for a run.
Apparently […]
Obama, Springsteen and the Flag
Bruce Springsteen never seemed to have a problem with the American Flag. Barack Obama still does, since ditching his American Flag lapel pin to appeal to the fringe MoveOn lefties. But for all Springsteen’s flag-waving, his politics came first as he endorsed another Democrat, Barack Obama. They have so much in common! […]
