Gilmore campaign declares victory?

Citing a solid turnout at the RPV convention May 30-31 as a precursor to victory, Matt Wells, campaign manager for Jim Gilmore, sounded awfully confident in a release today about his candidate’s chances next month:

“A clear majority of the convention delegates representing more than 6,000 votes have committed to support Governor Gilmore,” stated Matt Wells, Campaign Political Director. “A solid turnout at the GOP convention will be needed to seal victory.”

“Republicans from across the Commonwealth are responding overwhelmingly to Governor Gilmore’s record of accomplishments, his views on the issues and his plan for defeating Mark Warner. We have been able to activate a state-wide organization almost overnight, and the depth of our strength can be seen in strong pro-Gilmore delegations from every part of Virginia,” stated Wells.

These are the same people who couldn’t get the name of my unit chair right.

I’d take it with a salt mountain.

To counter that, I heard that Steve Waters didn’t even file in Henrico. What does that say about Marshall if his own campaign manager didn’t file?

On… I think it was… NPR (National Public Radio) I previously heard Jim Gilmore himself proclaim about the same thing. He was willing to talk about all the issues that might impact his run against Mark Warner. However whenever the subject of the nomination race or Marshall came up he dismissed it as if the race was already decided. He sounded extremely confident.
