Obama, Springsteen and the Flag
By | Thursday, April 17th, 2008 | Politics

Bruce Springsteen never seemed to have a problem with the American Flag. Barack Obama still does, since ditching his American Flag lapel pin to appeal to the fringe MoveOn lefties. But for all Springsteen’s flag-waving, his politics came first as he endorsed another Democrat, Barack Obama. They have so much in common! Neither has done much in the last 20 years.

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

Bruce Springsteen contributes more to the national dialogue by clearing his throat than this blog does.

Then why are you reading it?

  3. The Senator April 17, 2008 15:27 pm

Because, as previously stated, what Bruce Springsteen does and says is inherently interesting. The internet is full of blind alleys.

When did wearing a lapel pin – (probably made in China) – become the bellwether of patriotism?

The only thing wearing a label pin can certify is that the individual desires to appear patriotic – not exactly an overly-patriotic sentiment on its own – oh, and he or she likes wearing pins.

But it’s not like he never wore them. He used to wear American flag lapel pins, then he stopped and curiously started running for President and (poof) it was gone.

It did seem like a novice politician move.
