More points from yesterday’s “Audacity of Hype” speech on race
By J.R. HoeftYesterday, my post on Obama’s speech on race was mainly focused on his inclination to use big government as the solution to the nation’s woes; however, there were two other really important points that also should be highlighted.

Post Offices or National Security? Dems choose post offices
By J.R. HoeftIf the Democratic leadership in the House is so against the “Protect America Act”, then just vote on it. It’s interesting, but for all their rhetoric in 2006, they sure are a party of little action.

“Audacity of Hype” campaign soldiers on
By J.R. HoeftIn what will certainly be the most talked about speech of the week, and could finally sink Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Sen. Barack Obama delivered impassioned remarks on the state of race in America, the pursuit of happiness, and his relationship with his long-time spiritual leader, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Person of the Week: Rev. Jeremiah Wright
By J.R. HoeftDid Rev. Jeremiah Wright have influence on Sen. Barack Obama and his belief system? Is it appropriate to question Wright’s influence on Obama, especially when he uses phrases such as “God damn America“? What about media bias? Has there been a difference in coverage between Pres. Bush appearing at Bob Jones University for a speech in 2000 and how the media is treating Obama today? Regardless, it’s dominating the news…making Rev. Wright our person of the week.
P.S….great comment in the Gateway Pundit link:
Now… Imagine if Bush hadn’t just given a speech, but also…
** Was an active member of the church for 20-years.
** Was married by Bob Jones
** Had his children baptized by Bob Jones
** Gave tens-of-thousands to the church
** Titled a book after one of Jones’ sermons
** Had regularly listened to Jones’ sermons on tape while at grad school
** Had appointed Jones to his campaign
** Claimed Jones as his spiritual mentor…and then claimed he was “only vaguely aware of Bob Jones University’s policies and past”?
Drake to force Dems to vote on their own bill
By Brian KirwinDemocrats may campaign about illegal immigration, but it’s like tax cuts, smaller government and strong defense - they really don’t like to actually do anything about it.
Congresswoman Thelma Drake wants the Congress to vote on a Democrat bill that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are campaigning in favor of, and the Democrats are saying “NO”

Are we still Americans?
By J.R. HoeftI don’t mean to oversimplify, but we have a huge government bureaucracy, we’re engaged in entangling alliances, our taxes cover nearly a half year of an individual’s labor in order to pay them, we participate in foreign adventurism, religion is anathema, our conversations are monitored, most of our leaders, despite unethical behavior, remain in office, we can’t get fuel from our own lands, and those that do try to offer solutions to our most pressing problems usually get voted out of office for “compromising.”
Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on? Is this really what the Founders envisioned?
Certainly not. But I think Romans of the Republic, towards its latter years, would recognize the symptoms.
One point of optimism: today in New York, new governor, David Paterson, said that today was a historic occasion; not because he is the first black governor, but because the rule of law prevailed and no individual is above the law.
Well, there’s still hope.
McCain and March Madness
By J.R. HoeftWhile Democratic presidential contenders Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama continue to flail about, Sen. John McCain is enjoying a little March Madness.
Marty Williams unloads on Mike Wade
By J.R. HoeftIt would appear that former state Sen. Marty Williams has lost no affection for current RPV 3rd Congressional District Chair Mike Wade. Yikes!
Byler wants to be 2nd District Chair. Why?
By J.R. HoeftGary Byler, longtime GOP activist in Virginia Beach and husband to the late RPV National Committeewoman Jennifer Byler, is seeking to become the chairman of RPV’s Second Congressional Committee. Byler has decided to challenge current committee chair, Bruce Meyer, who has the backing of, well, just about everyone, including, and perhaps most importantly, Rep. Thelma Drake.

Democrats in Washington still think spending is the answer
By J.R. HoeftTwo houses. Both controlled by Democrats. Two separate budgets. Both have massive spending increases. Both fail to do anything on Congressional earmarks. But one saving grace is one budget will keep the Bush tax cuts in for a remaining three years (the Senate version), but the other (the House) will eliminate them immediately.

Rep. John Boehner, Republican Leader -- Mar. 14, 2008 [17:17m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (416)The Pork’s On You
By NormanSen. Jim DeMint’s amendment to ban earmarks for a year came crashing down on a 71-29 vote last night. How did Virginia’s Senators vote?
Both John Warner and Jim Webb voted against the moratorium, showing that political pork remains their favorite white meat.
