Marshall Campaign Manager: “We cannot abandon our principles on life”

Del. Bob Marshall’s campaign manager, Steve Waters, who used to work for three years at the Family Foundation, fired a “shot across the bow” at former Gov. Jim Gimore, while Gilmore looked on, at the Virginia Beach Republican Party Breakfast today on the subject of life.
“One thing that pains my heart though, and I actually heard a little bit of the conversation this morning, and that is people in this Republican Party, taxes, national security, all those things are very important, but the first and foremost platform of the Republican Party has to be our values on life,” said Waters.
In the remaining part of his speech, Waters painted clear differences between the Marshall and Gilmore campaign, without actually saying so.
He advocated that Marshall’s seventeen years as a member of the House of Delegates, and his consistent positions of life, make him the ideal Republican candidate. Waters continued by saying that some Republican candidates campaign on a pro-life position, but abandon those positions when they get to Richmond or Washington.

Would you like a better interpretation?
“We cannot abandon the only issue Del. Marshall has”.
No statewide name recognition, he is not a Veteran, No National Security Credentials, Marshall Remains silent on Drilling in the ANWAR, and when ever another Delegate or state wide elected Republican endorses Gov. Gilmore, they are angrily attacked.
Look we have a tough enough row to hoe, without a bunch of infighting. I could see Del. Marshall’s line of reasoning against Gov. Gilmore on the Pro Life issue if he were the type of Republican who panders for the Pro-Abortion vote, but consider:
Gov. Gilmore enacted a ban on Partial Birth Abortions, enacted a 24 hour waiting period in VA before you can have an abortion, significantly increased funding for adoptions and programs promoting Abstinence, and worked as Gov. Allen’s AG on, and then while he was Gov. the Supreme Court finally decided on Parental Notification laws in VA.
He stated that the day Roe vs. Wade was overturned in America would be a great day.
Does this sound like a politician pandering for the votes of the Pro-Abortion crowd?
Building name recognition is one thing, but the way some Republicans are going after Gov. Gilmore on this one issue is not making sense.
Gov. Gilmore’s term in office saw the VA General Assembly finally gain Republican majorites since Reconstruction, and all fellow Republicans can do is spit at him?
You know we have lost state wide twice, lost the majority in the Senate, losing seats in the House, and the only candidate that has won twice state wide, and both times in NOVA is being scoffed at?
It’s time for these detractors to try a little self reflection and ask themselves do we really want to let Gov. Warner add to the Dems majority in the US Senate? How about we do not slash and burn Gov. Gilmore on an issue he has actually delivered on for the Pro-Life Movement?
I hear that is what we are not going to do to a candidate for US President that has consistently voted against Conservative Principles on MULTIPLE issues for over a decade in our US Senate.
Can I get a Harumph?
Spank That Donkey,
Bob Marshall stands on other issues besides the cause for protecting the unborn. He happens to be an anti-tax advocate and dedicated to protecting the environment. I believe we will notice a great crossover appeal in the general election for Marshall over Warner for these principles.
Our country needs fresh leadership, not a blast from the past.
CCC:
Gov. Warner ran on a platform to not raise taxes, and to eliminate the Car Tax in his first or second year in office.
Gov. Gilmore is the credible, twice elected state wide candidate to debate Gov. Warner on this issue. His name recognition and reputation on cutting taxes is beyond doubt.
That is a blast from the past that Gov. Warner is not interested in hearing.
