Republican U.S. House leader Boehner stumps in Virginia Beach
Republican Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner of Ohio stopped by Virginia Beach yesterday for a fundraiser on behalf of Rep. Thelma Drake. Here are audio excerpts of some very interesting things Boehner said on:
- What’s it like to be in the minority and why losing in 2006 may have been the best thing for Republicans
- The presidential race and the outlook for congressional campaigns
- FISA
- Involvement and how to best represent your district (Glenn Nye — this is for you)
- Energy (Includes what Lou Holtz thinks about the cost of gasoline)
- How to keep Virginia Red and his thoughts on Northern Virginia
- Education
- The retirement of Adm. William Fallon as CENTCOM
Listen to all the clips in one string…

Good stuff, Jim. I linked to this post for those in Ohio.
Thanks for the audio! Boehner is a good guy, isn’t he? Very direct and frank. I have been a fan since I first met him in college. His District inlcudes Miami University. In one weeks time I was able to meet him and John Kasich for the first time. Those two are a pair!
Hi Squeaky,
Congressman Boehner was very impressive.
I have to admit, my initial assessment last time I saw him was off, and you are right.
Kudos to him for coming out a second time to support my favorite representative to Congress–Thelma Drake.
This is the same Boehner who was caught distributing bribes from the tobacco industry on the floor of the House during a tobacco vote, right? (Which I believed he received some sort of reprimand for?) And, the same Boehner who knew about, but didn’t see any issues with fomer Rep Mark Foley’s involvement with young male pages…?
Not exactly a principled individual.
I always enjoy Ragnar’s drive-by comments that lack any point of reference…
Stay tuned because he will accuse someone else of doing hte same thing some time.
SW – I just don’t like the guy. The thing about passing around $$ on the floor of the House is just so dirty – the Foley comment was the bonus. Seriously, how can you defend going to the floor during a vote with $$ from an interested party and offerring a check in return for a vote. Hmmm, what does that sound like?
If it was a Dem doing the same thing, I would call him or her out as well.
And no Democrat has ever done anything for a campaign contribution. They’re all so squeaky clean!
Exactly BK, too many of our politicians are dirty. I’m not saying that Boehner is any worse (than for example good ole Jefferson), actually he is probably a bit better on the morality scale, it’s just that it was so blatent…
I watched the first two episodes of John Adams last night on HBO (F-ing great!) and it made me take a step back, look at our congress and parties… and I was sad.
Our leaders, all parties are shit, I think. Shit.
And sadly, nothing will change becuase no one gives a damn. If there is a problem, the other party uses it to blame and get votes, not offer solutions… and then they just switch places. It is like the two parties are just made up of hole diggers and hole fillers who never leave the same plot of land, yet blame each toehr for the hole.
Amen brother.
