Three Chesapeake Councilman stood up to HB3202

It appears that the General Assembly is cobbling together a proposal that might allow the nine localities that voted for the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority to impose their own taxes, in lieu of the authority performing that role (which was ruled unconstitutional Friday).
In Chesapeake, three councilman voted against creating the measure in the first place: Mayor Dalton Edge, Alan Krasnoff (candidate for mayor), and John deTriquet. It would appear that Chesapeake would vote in favor of higher taxes to fund transportation projects…but don’t blame these guys.
Only Alan Krasnoff is running for election this May 7. Mayor Edge is retiring. deTriquet is up for re-election in 2010.
