McDonnell starting a national trend on immigration?

In Cal Thomas’ column today, Attorney General McDonnell is highlighted as a leader in the fight to secure our borders and promote lawful immigration.

Thomas highlights some of Virginia’s successes, which includes the most recent identification and deportation of 171 sex criminals in Virginia illegally — and how the Virginia State Police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials were able to work together to make that happen.

In conclusion Thomas wrote:

Virginia and at least two of its jurisdictions [Manassas and Prince William] are onto something. Other states and localities might wish to consider a similar approach.

The federal government seems to be getting the message. Perhaps shamed by Virginia, immigration officials, according to the Washington Post, are now actively “scouring jails and courts nationwide” to identify immigrants who qualify for deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports that in a 12-month period ending last Sept. 30, “it placed 164,000 criminals in deportation proceedings,” an increase from the 64,000 the agency identified and placed in deportation proceedings the previous year. ICE “estimates the number will rise to 200,000 this year.”

This is why we need a Republican governor. Tim Kaine isn’t doing squat on illegal immigration.

Bravo for AG McDonnell. I hold him in high regard and expect to see more great things.

The statement that “Actively scouring jails and courts…” is a crock. It is not a secret or tough to solve mystery of where illegals are in Virginia’s local lock ups. Local lock ups are reimbursed by the Feds for housing illegals. When police arrest them, they take the illegal to a INS contracted local lock-up. Local Sheriff’s offices and regional jails are already struggling to keep out of the red, so I am sure they are promptly submitting their housing bills for illegals.

So for immigration officials to tell the Washington Post that they are scouring jails is giving them credit for something they should not have to do. It makes them look like they are working hard, when in fact, it only shows how they are bumbling fools.

Every local jail that has a contract with INS to house illegals submits to the feds, an itemized bill to get reimbursed.

I suggest that the feds look at their accounts payable remittance from local lockups rather than waste time scouring if they really want to know where the illegals are in VA.
