Strippers, cigarettes, and education

If it weren’t for the General Assembly, the time between college football and spring training would be so boring.

Two weeks ago, the great debate was how Del. Terrie Suit was able to single-handedly allow restaurant owners to decide for themselves whether or not to allow smoking in their establishments.

Last week, the discussion turned to how Sen. Yvonne Miller said that if we didn’t have government funded pre-K education, the kids will turn into criminals — or at least derelicts.

Now, there’s this from the hallowed-halls of the General Assembly: Del. John Cosgrove has written, along with Attorney General McDonnell, a reasonable compromise bill that permits public nudity, as long as it’s artistically tasteful. From the Virginian-Pilot:

Bad language, stripteases and nudity in ABC-regulated venues such as theaters, concert halls and museums would be allowed if the performances are not obscene and have “serious literary, artistic, scientific, or political value.”

So, it is quite possible, if legislation is voted a certain way this session, that those who do not receive a pre-K education will end up watching strip teases (or W&M Sex-Shows) while smoking a cigarette.

And you thought politics was boring! Who needs pre-K when you get this kind of education from Richmond!

PS — What’s the other connection? All the legislators (and the Attorney General) mentioned here are from Hampton Roads.

PPS — You know, the least the General Assembly could do is keep pay-day lending going, that way there are plenty of dollar bills handy.

So I take it that I might then still be able to drink a beer while watching the go go dancers?

    Amen.

I no longer visit such places, but oh boy, back when I was younger… grin.

It also just struck me instead of a beer at the club, you can just go buy a “fifth” on Sunday afternoon on your way to the “club”.

Yeah, and then they’d just charge you five bucks for the shot of cola that you just have your own liquour to add to. Too bad if you prefer beer. Get over it.

I haven’t heard of any of the private clubs that allow you to keep your own keg of beer behind the counter.
